HARTLAND — Funeral services for Viola H. Durphey, 89, a lifelong resident of Hartland, who passed away June 16, 2011 at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor were held June 20 at the First Congregational Church in Hartland. Rev. Lucia Jackson, Pastor, officiated. Burial followed in the Hartland Village Cemetery.
She was born August 14, 1921 in Hartland, the daughter of Ray-mond S. and Hazel (Barbour) Howe.
She received her schooling in Hartland and Windsor, graduat-ing from Windsor High School in 1939.
She worked as a hairdresser in Lebanon for a short while. She married Carroll R. Durphey in Hartland on August 18, 1940.
Mrs. Durphey served as Hart-land town auditor for many years and was later employed as a bookkeeper for Precision Cutter Grinding also in Hartland.
She was a longtime member of the Hartland First Congregational Church, a member and officer of the Hartland PTA, and a 4-H Leader for many years. She en-joyed bookkeeping, knitting, crocheting and camping. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family.
Survivors include one daugh-ter, Donna L. Barber of Hartland; one son, Raymond C. Durphey of Hartland; two brothers, Paul G. Howe and Avery L. Howe, both of Hartland; one sister, Laura Noel of Perkinsville; six grand-children; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Durphey passed away July 28, 1988. She was also prede-ceased by two brothers, Ray-mond S. Howe, Jr. and Leo Howe.
