Enduring The Heat
The Vermont 100 Endurance Ride and Run entered its 23rd year this past weekend. With over 300 runners registered and well over 250 volunteers, the race began on Saturday at 4 am and ended on Sunday at 10 am. 266 100 milers and 24 100K racers started. About 82 percent of entrants finished the race in under 30 hours. The weekend closed with a chicken BBQ provided by the Windsor Fire Department. The first 100 mi man to cross the finish line was Michael Arnstein from New York City with a time of 15:26:20. Leigh Schmit of Healdsburg CA with a time of 15:34:08 followed him. The first woman 100 miler, Serena Wilcox, crossed at 18:09:46. Wilcox is from Cambridge VT. Waterbury VT woman Lindsay Simpson, in her first long distance run, completed the concurrent 100K race with a time of 12:18:46.
