A memorial visitation for Catherine Soule Holt, 82, who died peacefully on Friday, August 12, 2011 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington Vermont where she and her husband, Floyd, have been residing since July, will be held August 21 from 3 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. at Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock. There will be a gathering for food and reminis-cence at her home in West Woodstock immediately following.
Catherine Mary Soule was born on November 28, 1928 in Barnard Vermont. She was the youngest of 10 children born to William Jackson and Gladys (Gardner) Soule.
Catherine graduated from Woodstock High School in 1946 and married Floyd Seymour Holt, Jr. in August 1947. The couple made their home in Woodstock where they raised four children.
Catherine enjoyed an extensive career at the Woodstock Inn and Resort and was named Employee of the year in 1989. After recovering from a heart attack and bypass surgery in 1998 she returned to the Inn as maître d’ of the main dining room for several years.
Catherine was a proud member of the Inn’s Quarter Century Club.
Catherine had a bright smile and a sharp sense of humor, which will be missed by all who loved her. She enjoyed traveling and took many trips including Europe, Florida, and California. She spent a lot of time in her swimming pool, built by her husband. She loved to read and do crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Catherine had many close friends and loved going on lunch dates.
Catherine is survived by her loving husband, Floyd; and their four children, Cynthia of Califor-nia, twins, Marsha and Marilyn of Woodstock, and F. Steven of Mar-tha’s Vineyard; one brother, Raymond; four grandchildren, Renee, Natasha, Jacob and Christopher; one great grandson, Geoffrey; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her par-ents; and eight siblings; along with her good friend and colleague, Marion Grover.
Catherine’s spirit will live on through her friends and family members and she will be remembered as a courageous, generous and classy lady.
