SOUTH ROYALTON — Graveside memorial services for Leon E. Thurston, 85, who died April 17, 2012 at Menig Extended Care Facility in Randolph, will be held Saturday, May 5 at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Braintree. There are no calling hours.
He was born Sept. 20, 1926 in Roxbury; the son of Wilbert and Florence (Dickinson) Thruston
He was raised in Roxbury, and was married to Eris Flint in Northfield on Aug. 1, 1946. Leon had worked for Central Vermont and Santa Fe Railroads, and then hauled pulp for Harold Rogers. He then worked for Rock Of Ages, after which he hauled milk from South Royalton to Worcester, Mass. He had also worked for Hartford Oil Company for many years, then for Twin State Fuels for 13 years before retiring in 1990. Leon enjoyed hunting fishing, and gardening, and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter Day Saints.
Survivors include his daughters, Maxine Young of Tunbridge and Nancy Ann Moulton and her husband, David of Royalton; sons, Wilbert “pete” Thurston and wife, Lillian of White Rvier Junctionk, Richmond Thurston and wife, Edna of Gaffney, S.C., and Raymond Thurston and wife, Mary of White River Jucntion; brothers, Delbert Thurston of South Royalton, Wendell Thurston of Rochester and Stanley Thurston of South Wodostock, N.H.; soster Neva Ellis of Onsett, Mass; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Eris; son-in-law, Marty Young; brothers, Armond, Carroll, and George; and sisters,, Lillian Johnstone and Catherine Gladstone.

Arrangements are by the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.
