Services for Romaine (Kuhn) Horter, 89, who died April 12, 2012 at her home at the Woodstock Terrace, were held at the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock on April 15. Graveside services were held at the Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill. Pastor Ron Smith from Christian Life Assembly officiated.
She was born on January 15, 1923 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Regina (Williams) Kuhn and Charles Kuhn, she spent her childhood and adult years in Camp Hill, just across the river from Harrisburg.
Her father died when she was just three and her mother married Charles “Ed” Boose, Romaine’s beloved stepfather.
She attended Camp Hill High School and Southern Seminary Junior College in Virginia and married her high school sweetheart, William “Bill” Horter on May 11, l942. They had three children, Sharon, Bill, Jr. and Wendy.
Romaine taught kindergarten at Mrs. Brown’s Kindergarten on Chestnut Street in Camp Hill and then went back to school at the Penn State extension in Harrisburg to earn her teaching certificate. After that she taught at the York Haven School near York, Pa. for many years, playing the piano and directing her children in small musicals along with their other curricular activities.
She retired and travelled extensively, first with her husband and after his death by herself, to Austria, Germany, Italy, the Bahamas and throughout the United States.
Although she had a career and, later, her travels, her life was centered upon her family. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother and as a devoted gardener and God-loving church member of the Christian Life Assembly.
In 2007, she moved to Woodstock Vermont to be closer to her older daughter who had retired and to live in an assisted living community. She attended church locally there at the Revival Connection. At the Woodstock Terrace she gained many loving friends. Her last days were filled with visits from her family and the Woodstock Terrace Staff and Community who loved her, as well as her beloved pastor and Revival Connections friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Groblicki of Woodstock, Vermont, and Wendy Yocum of Marysville, Pennsylvania, six grandchildren, Evan Anstruther of Ovieda, Florida, William “Bill” Horter, of Winter Spring, Florida, Duncan Lee and his wife, Eva, of Port Charlotte, Florida, Benjamin Horter of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Collin Lee, and his wife Melissa of Graniteville, Vermont, Bronwyn Young and her husband Chris of Woodstock, Vermont, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her parents and stepfather, her husband, Bill, and her son, Bill Jr.
