PERKINSVILLE — A celebration of life for Janice C. Phelan, 70, who passed away on May 16, 2012 at her home surrounded by her loving family, were held at Janice’s home on Gulf Road in Perkinsville on May 20, 2012.
She was born December 28, 1941 in Queens, New York, the daughter of John and Helen (Kalet) Bloodgood.
She attended schools in New York and graduated from Bayside High School class of 1958.
“Jan” married Joseph F. Phelan on July 30, 1959 at St. Andrews in Flushing, New York. He predeceased her on September 22, 2009.
Jan was a “Clerk of the Works” actively involved in many organizations over the years. She was an avid bowler, at times bowling three days a week, and a member, secretary and past president of the Precision Valley Bowling Association, as well as a member and secretary of the Vermont State Bowling Association, acting as secretary for 20 + years.
Jan, and her husband Joe, were instrumental in the founding of the VT chapter of the American Truck Historical Society of which Jan was secretary and treasurer. They were very active in restoring antique trucks and showing them at the various chapter shows throughout New England. She was also an early member of the West Weathersfield Volunteer Fire Dept. Women’s Auxiliary.
She worked as a paraprofessional in the Weathersfield School System, was a Justice of the Peace for many years, recently volunteered at the Springfield Hospital and worked per diem at the Springfield Hospital.
Along with her husband, Joe, She owned and operated an Insurance business in Flushing NY, a property management firm, managing several rental properties in Claremont, NH and later Unique Vehicles, an auto transportation company, coordinating and dispatching her husband’s truck all over the country. For the past 30 years Jan owned and operated Gulf Pond Trees, a Christmas tree farm, shipping wreaths and trees all over the country.
Most of all she loved her family and friends and enjoyed the interaction, that came with all her involvement with all these roles and organizations.
Jan is survived by her son Joseph F. Phelan Jr. of Dublin, Ohio; three daughters, Janice Graham of Barnard, Vt., Maureen Sullivan of Indianapolis, Indiana and Elizabeth Wade of Rutland; a brother Bruce Bloodgood of Naples, Florida; and her grandchildren, Stephanie Taylor, Paige Graham, Jessica Phelan, Joseph F Phelan III, Michael LaDuc and Steven Jeter.
She was predeceased by her parents, and her brother John Bloodgood.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
