HANOVER, NH and formerly of Woodstock – Services and interment will be private for Josephine Smith McWilliams, 92, who died on Tuesday, May 22, 2012.
She was born on December 24, 1919, the daughter of Frank and Nelle (Fitts) DeWitt Smith, in Pasadena, CA.
On June 26, 1940, she was married to John McWilliams. Soon after their wedding they moved to Pittsfield, MA, and then Williamstown, MA, before retiring in the Woodstock, VT area in 1974.
Josephine was involved in the Berkshire Garden Club and was a member of the Junior League. She was an avid needle worker.
She is survived by son John McWilliams IV and wife Nancy Marshall of McClellanville, SC; daughter Carol Gibson and husband George Gibson of Burlington, VT; son David McWilliams and wife Rachel Kurland of South Strafford, VT; daughter Patricia McWilliams of Middletown Springs, VT; seven grandchildren Dana McWilliams Braun of Atlanta, GA; David Gibson of Burlington, VT; Margaret Gibson of Vail, CO; Samuel McWilliams of South Strafford, VT; Katherine McWilliams Malloy of Savannah, GA; Benjamin McWilliams of San Franciso, CA; Patrick McWilliams of Savannah, GA; two great-granddaughters Greta and Neva; and four nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her husband of 62 years, grandson John Julian McWilliams, and son-in-law Doyle Lane.
