Rick Carbin, member of the Barnard Community Trust, said that the Barnard General Store will be open every morning from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. starting this Saturday, for free coffee and conversation.
“There will be a donation box for those who want to help,” said Carbin.
Board members of the Trust will be on hand to answer questions as well as brainstorm with people about the new life of the store. The front of the store will be blocked off and the back of the store will serve as the meeting place.
Additionally, Carbin said that the group’s web site,, is expected to be up and running by Friday. There will be a public meeting held either July 9 or 11 – Carbin says they’ve yet to confirm a date – to clear up information about the store and the plan to keep it open.
“There are people who haven’t been privy to the conversations we’ve been having about this, so we want to open up the discussion,” Carbin said.
Papers were signed last Thursday that enabled the Trust to purchase an option on the store for $20,000; members said they’ll have to raise $500,000 by the end of the year in order to own the store.
