With the forecast promising sunny skies, Woodstock Union High School’s class of 2012 are awaiting the culminating weekend that marks their entrance into the wider world: graduation. Tomorrow, at 6 p.m. the students of WUHS class of 2012 will receive their diplomas and celebrate what has been for many of them 12 years with the same familiar faces of their classmates. A smaller class this year, fewer than 80 students will receive diplomas tomorrow.
The Alumni Day celebrations Saturday will include the seventieth Alumni Day Parade around the green. This year’s theme is “headlines” and each class has its own take on the top story of their particular year. The floats are traditionally somewhat campy and always unique. Before the parade, a Sunday morning pancake breakfast at the Masonic Temple will be held to benefit of the Woodstock Alumni Association. After the parade, the current graduating class will offer hot dogs and hamburgers on the Green.
Last year some light showers came our way during the Alumni Parade but this year it looks to be a clear day. With alum coming from all across the country for the event, classes will convene after the parade for separate class dinners, barbecues and get-togethers – most held at the home of a class member. The class of 1962 will be in attendance at graduation night, as their fifty years since graduation are noted by the class of 2012.
A listing of class floats for the parade as well as class dinners can be found on page 3A. The special graduation supplement can be found inside in a pull out section.
