ROYALTON — Graveside services for Dorothy J. “Dottie” Olmstead, 79, who died July 5, 2012 at the Gifford Medical Center in Randolph was held July 13 at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Royalton.
She was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Oct. 7, 1932, the daughter of John R. and Violet (Hawley) Mahoney. She attended school in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
On Jan. 6, 1955, she married Charles “Charlie” Olmstead of Royalton. They lived over 30 years on the family farm in Royalton before moving to Colchester, where she worked at the University of Vermont bookstore. She enjoyed working at the bookstore retiring in 1994 and at that time moved back to Royalton.
For over 30 years Dottie and Charlie danced with the Ed Larkin Contra Dancers. She was a member of Royalton Civics Club and the Royalton Academy Building Board of Directors. She enjoyed playing bingo, reading, visiting with children, cooking, card games with neighbors, sewing, puzzles and traveling. She was proud of her Irish heritage, traveled to Ireland and always enjoyed St. Patrick’s Day.
She is survived by her husband, Charlie of Royalton; two sons, John Olmstead of Royalton and Charles “Chuck” Olmstead of Clayton, N.C. two daughters, Elizabeth Olmstead of Fort Worth, Texas and Holly Olmstead of Colchester; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandson; a brother, Donald Mahoney of Florida; and a sister, Mary Tierney of Moraga, Calif.
She was predeceased by three brothers, John “Jack” Mahoney, Robert Mahoney and Harold Mahoney.
