HARTLAND – Memorial services for William “Bill” C. Henne, 79, who died Sunday, July 22, at his home surrounded by his loving family, will be held July 30 at 1 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., followed by burial in the Hartland Village Cemetery. A visitation will be held Sunday, July 29th from 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Bill was born June 20, 1933 in Plainfield, NJ, the son of William H. and Winifred E. (Rauber) Henne.
He attended the Admiral Farragut Academy in Pine Beach, NJ and graduated from Rutgers Preparatory School in Bound Brook, NJ. Upon his graduation Bill enlisted in the US Navy where he served honorably from 1953 until 1957. He was married to the love of his life, Patricia Carpenter, on July 2, 1955 in Plainfield, NJ. Upon his discharge from the Navy, the Hennes lived in Plainfield for a time before moving to White House, NJ for several years while Bill worked for Mack Truck. In 1965 the family moved to Windsor, VT then to Hartland while Bill was employed by Cone Blanchard as a computer operator until the company closed. He then worked for a time at Computac in West Lebanon, NH and for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Vermont until his retirement. He spent his free time helping out with his son’s family business at the Green Mountain Smokehouse.
While in New Jersey, Bill was an active member of the White House Volunteer Fire Department. After moving to Vermont he was a member of the Windsor Jaycees and American Legion Post 26 in White River Junction. Bill was very involved with Hartland Boy Scouts of America Troop 235, including serving as a Scout Master for many years. He spent a short time as an assistant coach for the Reading Elementary School baseball team. Bill enjoyed cheering for the Red Sox and following his favorite stockcar drivers at Thunder Road in Barre, VT and the White Mountain Motor Parkway in North Woodstock, NH, his greatest joy was the time spent with his family.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Patricia Henne of Hartland, VT; two sons, William C. Henne of Brownsville, VT and John “Jake” T. Henne and his wife Koreen of South Reading, VT; two daughters Patricia L. Richard and husband Steven and Sheila J. McCoy and husband William both of Wilder, VT; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Winifred Williams of Mays Landing, NJ and Leona “Mary” Traxler of South Plainfield, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.
