Sylvia was born on Oct. 23, 1918 in Hartford, the daughter of Ephraim and Flora (Thrasher) LaFountain.
Sylvia loved people and if you became her friend she never forgot you. She cherished visits with family and friends right to the end of her life. She was a generous and loving person and will be missed by many people. Knitting, crocheting and reading were favorite pastimes for Sylvia and she loved Boxer dogs and birds.
She was involved in many organizations in her lifetime: the First Congregational Church of Hartland in Christian Education, a founding member of The Famous Brick Church Roast Beef Supper; president of the Hartland PTA in 1949 and 1969 and served as president for Vermont PTA and representative to national PTA. She was president of the 1918 Club for two years. She was honored by the Hartland Grange as citizen of the year.
In 1939 Sylvia married Ralph A. Blodgett (deceased) and together they raised four children: Peter (deceased) (Sandra), Richard (Velma) Martha (W. David) and William. They dearly loved their seven grandchildren: Randy, Christy, Pamela (deceased), Deb, Cathy, Diane and Cindy and four great grandchildren: Kianna, Kesha, Carrie, and Sara. Sylvia was blessed with four brothers: Maurice (deceased), Richard, Manton and Wallace and she kept in close touch with them over their lifetimes. She is also survived by special nieces and nephews, including a very close nephew, John Hammond.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Stoughton House for its excellent care of their mother over the past two-and-a-half years.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church of Hartland, P O Box 454, Hartland, VT 05048 or Historic Homes of Runnemede (Stoughton House) 40 Maxwell Perkins Drive, Windsor, VT 05089.
