Book Discussion At Billings Farm

October 9, 2012

in Uncategorized

Kirk Kardashian of Woodstock will discuss his book, “Milk Money:Cash, Cows, and the Death of the American Dairy Farm” Saturday, Oct. 20, at 4 p.m. in the Billings Farm & Museum Visitor Center.
The dairy business is at the heart of the culture and economy of Vermont, just as it is in many other states. Milk Money explores the plight of the family dairy farm – entangled in a market system where the price of a product bears no relation to the cost of its inputs. That fact meant little to Kirk Kardashian, until he started taking his daughter to daycare at a dairy farm a few miles from his Vermont home – a farm owned by the same family for generations, but whose owners were struggling to make ends meet. Suddenly, the abstractions of economics and commodities markets were replaced by the flesh and blood of family farmers, whom he greeted every day.
Admission to the discussion is free, a book signing and reception will follow.
