For the first time in school history, the Woodstock girls cross country team is going to the New England Cross Country Championships.

The girls finished second in Division II and sixth place overall at the state cross country championships Saturday in Thetford, qualifying for the New England race, which will take place Nov. 10 at the Twin Brook Recreation Area in Cumberland, Maine. No girls team has qualified the New England race, according to coach Hank Glass, though Martha Winston qualified individually back in 2003.

“Just about everybody (had a personal record) for both the boys and girls,” coach Hank Glass said. “They peaked at the right time and they gave us 110 percent, so I’m extremely proud of them.”

The boys cross country team finished third in Division II, but missed qualifying for the New England Championships, finishing 13th overall.
