in News,Obituaries,Woodstock

There will be a service at the North Universalist Chapel on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. for Ryland Walter Stout, age 3 of Woodstock, who died in the loving arms of his parents on Monday Oct. 22. He had battled a rare, terminal brain tumor for over a year.
Ryland was born on June 25, 2009 at Dartmouth Hitchcock.
Surviving a difficult birth, Ryland showed remarkable strength and resilience from the beginning. He always seemed to have a sense of humor beyond his years, and he possessed a special sensitivity and loving kindness towards others. Ryland loved trucks and tractors, ball sports, and his bike. He relished his days at the Rainbow Playschool in Woodstock with his friends and devoted teachers. He also delighted in playtime with his sister.
Ryland was diagnosed with a Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) in September 2011. He bravely underwent radiation at DHMC and participated in a clinical trial in Pittsburgh. Though he gained some quality time, the treatments were ultimately not curative and the disease began to progress again last summer. Ryland demonstrated his signature strength and courage, as well as his love and humor, until the end.
Ryland is survived by his parents Matthew and Jessica Stout; a sister Jane age five; as well as his aunts, uncles and grandparents on both sides. He will be deeply missed and loved forever.
The family has established a foundation to support much needed research of DIPG, in the hopes of finding a cure. Donations can be made to: the Ryland Walter Stout Foundation; ℅ Matthew Stout, 3420 Cox District Road, Woodstock, VT 05091.
