PITTSFORD — A memorial celebration will be held at a later date for Winifred Louise (Winnie) (McCormick) Altwater, 91, of Pittsford and Greenacres, Fla., who died Sept. 22 as a result of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Born July 6, 1921 in New York, she was a graduate of Tenafly High School in New Jersey.
Mrs. Altwater and her family operated Sherburne Gift Shop in Killington and later owned and operated Killington-Pico Motor Inn.
She enjoyed traveling, organizing social events and was active in many women’s groups. She was also a sports enthusiast who played golf three times a week until a few months before her death.
Survivors include six children, Joanne (Folgosi) Fiedler of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., Nancy Altwater of Garfield, Wash., John Altwater of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Barbara (Altwater) Foley of Killington, Rodger Altwater of Tyson and Patricia (Altwater) Byrne of Mendon; 10 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two husbands, Joseph G. Folgosi in World War II and Richard J. Altwater in 1981.
