Incumbent Jim Eckhardt has been narrowly defeated by Democrat challenger Anne Gallivan in the race for state representative in the Rutland-Windsor 1 district.
Gallivan won by 37 votes, less than 2 percent of vote.
“It’s amazing,” said Gallivan. “I had a feeling from the start that it was going to be tight.”
Gallivan, a longtime librarian and Chittenden resident will represent her hometown along with of Bridgewater, Killington and Mendon. Eckhardt, who was elected to the post in 2010, said he has “no regrets” and doesn’t intend to contest the results.
“I wish Ann well,” Eckhardt said.
