Americans will be going to the polls in November to vote for their next President. In the world of Richard III, leaders clawed, fought and killed their way to power. In this context, Shakespeare’s Richard III plays the game of thrones better than anyone else. He is a charming, manipulative sociopath who carves a path to the Throne with skill, glee and ruthlessness.
Middlebury Actors Workshop’s trims the play down to a lean, compelling two hours, setting the action in a timeless world with Edwardian, gothic and modern elements. Paul Schnabel, as Richard, commands, fascinates and repells, as he takes us with him on his tragic ride to the top.
