Ellison was a true friend. She always cared about others more than herself. Lately when the subject turned to herself, she said she had led a full life and was tired of being housebound. But she needed to "make sure" Mr. Obama made it back to the White House and could leave this world feeling it was in good hands.

What an inspiration. But, oh, how we will miss her.

Ellison made it possible for many of us to take art seriously and live as artists. Her example of a generous and interesting way of being present and active in our regional culture continues as an important gift. Her political activism was as strong as her work in the arts. Frank and Ellison set a standard for discovering what is possible living in a place which we love.
She managed to "show up" throughout her life here in this busy artistic environment. Her grace through the last days is inspiring.I am grateful for the fifty years of shared time here.

The first time I ever saw Ellison was in a Level I class at Complete Canine where she had taken Princess Ling Ling for puppy training. I did not know who she was, but it was obvious that she was someone special: beautiful, graceful and elegant. Years later I would learn of her great influence on and historic contributions to the arts in our state. I will never forget seeing her and her beloved Ling Ling at art openings around the Upper Valley, and I count myself fortunate to be able to have gotten to know her better. She was an amazing lady, a talented artist and a force for beauty in this world. My heart goes out to her family, Hans, Ling Ling, and all who loved her. We have lost a great lady.

Ellison Lieberman was a tremendous ally to many artists in Vermont, and I consider myself fortunate to be among those she befriended with her warm, intelligent, discerning and generous presence. She was a lovely person in every way, a true class act and role model. I will miss her and remember her often. My heart goes out to her family and particularly to Hans Meijer, her most devoted and loved friend. Thank you Hans for taking such good care of her.
