Vermont State Police say 45-year-old Drury Morgan was the pedestrian victim of a hit and run accident that happened yesterday on Route 4 in Mendon.
Police say that Morgan was crossing the street near the Cortina Inn just after 5 p.m. when a vehicle headed east hit the driver and, police said, continued on. A second vehicle, driven by Joseph Ferrero, of Huntington Station, New York, also struck Morgan and Ferrero called 911.
Rutland County Fire and Rutland County Sheriff’s Department began resuscitation procedures to no avail.
Ferrero will not face charges but if the driver of the first car is located, they will face charges of leaving the scene of an accident with death resulting.
Police say the first vehicle may be a green station wagon.

My heart breaks with the loss of my sister. She also left a beautiful 17 year old son who adored his mom. If the driver who took off is reading this, please come forward. I understand you may not have even realized you hit a person, but you did. I understand you may have panicked, but it is time to face up to the actions that, though unintentional, took a beautiful angel from us. Please help us have some closure by coming forward. If you are a Christian, pray to the Lord for forgiveness. He is most merciful. To the second driver, thank you for stopping and calling for help. I pray you are not plagued with guilt. This was an accident. I pray for you and your family.
