Killington Taps Into Cow Power

Over the weekend, Green Mountain Power and Killington Resort hosted cows on the Resort site at the K-1 Express Gondola, which is being run entirely on methane from manure from local dairy farms. The Resort has purchased 300,000 kilowatt hours to power the gondola year round.
Thirteen farms around the state collect the manure and pump it into a anaerobic digester. The mixture travels through the digester for about three weeks, converting the manure into a mixture of methane gas and carbon dioxide. This biogas is fed into a generator hooked up to the GMP system.
Killington is touting itself as the first ski resort to run on cow power.
