HARTLAND — There will be no calling hours or funeral service for David W. Downing, 66 who died Jan. 25 after a long illness, per his request.
Burial will be in the spring.
He was born in Windsor on Feb. 10, 1946, son of John and Peggy Downing Rice (Lawton.) John died Sept. 16, 1981.
David attended Windsor High School; he married Beverly Griffon on Aug. 22, 1964. Beverly died Aug. 1, 2008.
David worked many years for Tip Top Bakery in White River Jct., and Miller Construction Co., Windsor, until failing health. Doctors put him on disability. He always had been a very hard worker. He loved his family a very much, especially his granddaughter.
He was a huge NASCAR racing fan and enjoyed watching football games.
He always had a smile and talents that not many have. He was kind and enjoyed helping others.
He is survived by his mother, Petty Rice and step-dad, Errol Rice of Hartland; two sons, David S. Downing an wife, Beth of Mooresville, N.C., Russ J. Downing, of Hartland; three brothers, John Downing of Somersworth, N.H., Mark Downing of Sanger, Texas, Terry Downing, of Pilot Point, Texas; step-sister, Cathie Kivler and husband, Harry, of Dunnellon, Fla.; two step-brothers, Ronald Rice and wife, Yvonne of Hartland and James Rice of Royalton; granddaughter, Rylie Downing of Mooresville, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations can be made to the Diabetes Foundation or Norris Cotton Cancer Center, One Medical Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756-0001.
Roy’s Funeral Home of Claremont, N.H., assisted with arrangements.
