SOUTH ROYALTON — A funeral service for Mary E. Rogers, 83, who died Feb. 2 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. will be held today Thursday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. at the Tunbridge Congregational Church. Rev. Deadra Ashton will officiate. Burial will be held later this spring in the Village Cemetery in Tunbridge.
She was born on May 14, 1929 in Tunbridge, the daughter of Albert A. and Mabel C. (Farnham) Ware.
She attended school in Tunbridge and South Royalton High School.
On March 18, 1947, she married Ernest “Spud” Rogers of Tunbridge. They were married for 57 years and lived all their married life in South Royalton.
Mary worked for over 20 years in the First National Grocery Store which later became Fran’s Food Store in South Royalton; she worked over 20 years as a bank teller at the Randolph National Bank in South Royalton and after retiring from the RNB, she worked for a few years at the South Royalton Market.
She was a member of the Royalton Civics Club in Royalton. She enjoyed playing Bingo, going to the casinos and gambling, watching sports (she was an avid fan of South Royalton High School sports since the 1960’s,) feeding the birds, going to yard sales and watching the Boston Red Sox baseball team. Her greatest enjoyment and love was the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by four sons, Dennis Rogers and his wife, Nancy, Stewart Rogers and his wife, Merry, all of Wildwood, Fla., Theodore Rogers and his wife, Ellen of South Royalton, and Patrick Rogers and his wife, Karen of East Thetford; a daughter, Jeannette Knudsen a her husband, Jeff of South Royalton; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest “Spud” Rogers in 2004; two brothers, Calvin Ware and James Ware; and two sisters, Arline Wilk and Lois Ware.
