TEQUESTA, Fla., formerly of Quechee — A celebration of life will be held in Vermont this summer for Wilfred G. (Bill) Hill, 87, who passed away peacefully Feb. 12.
He is survived by his loving wife Sylvia after 63 wonderful years of marriage. Also surviving him are three daughters, Carol “Lynn” Stoots (Herb) of Tequesta, FL and Roaring Gap, NC; Janet Dudley (Bob) of Kingston, NH; Nancy Hardy (Pat) of Alexander City, AL; and a son David Q. Hill (Julie) of Weston, Fla.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hill graduated from the University of Vermont with a BS in engineering followed by employment at Curtis Wright Corp in New Jersey. He earned a Masters degree in Engineering at Stevens Institute, Hoboken, NJ. In 1955 he joined General Electric in their Aircraft Engine Department in W. Lynn, MA where he continued to work until his retirement in 1985.
Upon his retirement he and Sylvia moved back to Vermont near where he was raised and enjoyed many years there entertaining friends and watching their family grow. Bill was in excellent health and enjoyed the outdoors and what it had to offer. He was an avid skier (Ole Smoothie) he was called, loved working in his yard and became very involved with golf. He played the game, worked many tournaments and was President of the Vermont Golf Association, New England Golf Association, and the New England Seniors Golf Association.
When the winters became too challenging the Hills wintered in Port St. Lucie, FL. Bill’s severe stroke in August of 2007 upset the schedule and they moved to Tequesta Terrace in Tequesta, FL.
Please honor Bill by making a donation in his memory to the Vermont Golf Association Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1612, Rutland, 05701.
