The Vermont legislature Thursday passed through legislation authored by Senator Patrick Leahy and Senator Susan Collins of Maine that would make the practice of straw purchasing, or buying a gun for someone who legally cannot, illegal. In a 11-7 vote, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved the bill, which would also include gun trafficking legislation.
Before the vote, Leahy said in a statement, “I hope that as other senators on both sides of the aisle become more familiar with our bipartisan proposal, they will understand how it provides law enforcement with the tools they need to go after those who engage in the straw purchasing and illegal trafficking of firearms.”

Beware of bipartisanship. That’s when congress is most dangerous.
