Reading Elementary School is one of three Vermont schools that have been nominated to the U.S. Department of Education (US ED) Green Ribbon Schools program, which recognizes schools that “save energy, reduce costs, feature environmentally sustainable learning spaces, protect health, foster wellness, and offer environmental education to boost academic achievement and community engagement,” according to a release from Montpelier Monday.
The schools have the chance for national recognition of their efforts to conserve energy and promote health awareness among both students and staff.
An overall winner will be chosen in April.
