LEBANON, NH – A reception will be held at the Woodlands in Lebanon, NH on Saturday, March 23, 2013 from 1-3 p.m. for Robert Rayford Guild (Bob), 89, who died peacefully on March 16 at the Alice Peck Day Hospital.
He was born in Boston, Mass. on Feb. 25, 1924, the son of Walter R. and Thelma (Hollander) Guild.
He graduated from Newton High School in Massachusetts in 1941.
He served with the 8th Armored Division in Europe during World War II and married Priscilla Lucas Allen in 1946. He graduated in 1948 with a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
He and his family lived in Wellesley, Mass. until 1975. Bob is a former president of the Maugus Club in Wellesley and was active in Little League baseball management and President of the Wellesley West League. From 1948 to 1975 he was employed at the Carr Fastner Division of TRW and was a manager of Engineering and Quality Control. In addition, he was Vice President of the American Society for Electroplated Plastics. He was a long time member of the American Society for Quality Control and was the New England representative for the Automotive Division.
In 1975 Bob and Priscilla moved to Quechee when he joined the GW Plastics Company in Bethel as Vice President of Engineering until his retirement in 1987. He became an owner/shareholder in the privately owned GW Plastics firm in 1983. After living in Quechee for 35 years, Bob and Priscilla moved to The Woodlands in Lebanon, N.H. in 2010.
For many years in retirement, he was Chairman of the Architectural Review Board of the Quechee Lakes Landowners Association. Bob donated many volunteer hours to fundraising and management assistance in building the new Quechee Library.
He was noted throughout his life for his devoted specialty hobby of building museum quality model ships. He was a perfectionist and every phase (from blueprint research to final assembly) was done with painstaking detail. He made furniture starting when he was in high school. In recent years, he was also a member of the Upper Valley Ship Modeling Group. An avid sailor in his younger days, he built a sailboat for his family to enjoy for many summers.
Married for 67 years to Priscilla L. Guild (Allen) of Lebanon, N.H. (formerly of Wellesley, Mass., and Quechee); father of Robert R. Guild, Jr. and his wife Sandy of Schwenksville, Penn., William L. Guild of Venice Calif, Janet G. Wheeler and her husband Jim of Stow, Mass. grandfather of Katherine Guild of Seattle, Wash., Elizabeth Cleary and her husband Liam of Willow Grove, Penn., Allen Guild and his wife Ginger of Oakland, Calif., James Guild of Singapore, Bradford Wheeler and his husband Paul Frisoli of Newton, Mass., and Gregory Wheeler of Brookline, Mass. Also survived by two nieces, Laura and Linda Guild.

i had the pleasure of meeting Bob on an introduction to the Upper Valley Ship Modeling Guild. I remember his graciousness and enthusiasm for modeling when on our first meeting he led me to his basement workshop and into the world of ship modeling.
