RANDOLPH CENTER — Memorial services for Robert “Bob” Shappell, 63, who died unexpectedly March 14 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH., will be held Friday, March 22 at 1:30 p.m. at Bethany United Church of Christ, Randolph. Rev. Robin Junker will officiate. There are no calling hours.
He was born Nov. 18, 1949 in Camden, N.J. the son of Frank and Mildred (Marvitz) Shappell.
Bob attended Palmyra (N.J.) schools and graduated from Palmyra High School in 1967. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1970 and served during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge from the service Bob worked as a “Master” electrician in the Palmyra N.J. area and later in New Hampshire.
He was married to Mary Hughes April 12, 1975 in Surf City, N.J. The Shappells lived in Manahawkin, N.J. until moving to New Hampshire in 1976. They moved to Morrisville in 1994 and to Randolph Center in 2006.
Bob owned and operated Shappell Enterprise, Inc. He enjoyed hunting, saltwater fishing, boating, winter sports and traveling. He especially enjoyed spending time on Oak Island in North Carolina.
He is survived by his wife Mary Shappell of Randolph Center; two daughters, Kate Collins and husband Tim of Quechee and Erin Sourdiff and husband Collin of Jeffersonville; his mother “Millie” Shappell of Lynchburg, Vir.; two sisters; Joan DiLeo and husband Joe of Palmyra, N.J. and Janice Silk of Lynchburg, Vir. four grandchildren: Nicco and Taylor Sourdiff and Olivia and Lucas Collins; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father.
