The Wasp Snack Bar served its last meal Friday.
The diner closed at 2 p.m. at the end of a busy lunch service. Owner Jill Johnssen made the decision to close for financial and personal reasons.
“It just got slow and I got a really good job offer — I mean it’s a lot for one person, the restaurant business is hard anyway, and just the bookwork and the buying, it’s really a seven-day-a-week thing,” Johnssen said.
Johnssen will take a lower-stress job as a cook at the new Hartland Diner, formerly Stella’s. Former Wasp employee Nicole Bartner purchased Stella’s in March and offered Johnssen a position at the Hartland Diner, which will open in April.
Johnssen has owned the diner for 10 years. The building has been up for at least 60 years.
“There were a lot of pretty sad people, but at the same time, they appreciate that it has to be very hard,” Johnssen said.
