QUECHEE — Funeral services were held April 8 at the Quechee Congregational Church for John R. Lewis, 89, who died April 5, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Burial followed at the Prosper Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
John was born June 10, 1923 son of Robert C. and Laura (Perkins) Lewis in Bridgewater.
He graduated from Woodstock High School in 1941, where he was a member of the ski team. From 1944 to 1946 he served in the U.S. Navy Aircorps.
In 1951 John married Patricia (Johnston) of West Rutland.
John worked at the Nelson Lee farm in North Bridgewater from 1950 until 1956. In 1956 he moved his family to Quechee and worked for Greydon Freeman for 35 years.
John is survived by his loving wife Patricia of 62 years; two sons, Fred of Taftsville, William (and wife Judy) of White River Jct.; two daughters, Mary Jane Palmer (and husband Gregg) of Huntington and Laurie of North Kingstown, R.I.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; two sisters Harriett Maynes, Windsor and Margaret Abbott, Orlando, Fla; sister-in-law Ruth M. Lewis, Woodstock; cousin Barbara Forth, Schenectady, N.Y., and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
John was predeceased by his parents; one brother Rodney and one sister Elsie Johnston.
