NORTH EAST, PA – Barbara Wilson O’Leary, age 75, of North East, PA, died on Wednesday May 1, 2013 at home.
She was born on September 20, 1937 in Dover, New Hampshire to the late Stanley E. and Jenny C. (Munkittrick) Wilson.
Barbara grew up in Woodstock, Vermont and graduated from Woodstock Union High School, where she was selected for the All State Band. After graduating from high school in 1955, she furthered her education at Becker Jr. College in Worcester, MA.
She was employed as a medical secretary at Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, CA, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, and at the O’Leary Dental Office in North East.
Barbara was an active member of St. Gregory Catholic Church in North East. She served on the Parish Council, was a Eucharistic Minister, and was involved in the Ladies Auxiliary. She was also very active with St. Gregory Parish School.
She was a member of the North East Women’s Club, was instrumental in the Girl Scouts of America, and served on the North East Juvenile Diversion Committee for several years.
She enjoyed spending time with family, playing cards with friends and watching the sunrise and sunset. But most of all she will be remembered for her ever-ready smile, charitable nature and spiritual grace.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her infant son and her sisters, Nancy Herzog and Connie Kenney.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 49 years, Dr. Robert O’Leary, whom she married on August 29, 1964 at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Woodstock, Vermont. Her constant love will be missed by her children: Maureen Ripple, PhD (Dr. Greg Ripple) of Hanover, NH; Dr. Gregory O’Leary (Victoria) of Gastonia, NC; Carolyn Mosier NP (Russell) of Falls Church, VA; Dr. Thomas O’Leary (Dr. Ryan O’Leary) of Huntersville, NC; and Kathy Zolman (Eric) of Charleston, SC; a brother, Robert Wilson (Judy) of North East; sisters, Carol (Leif) Jacobsen of Walpole, MA and Mary Chaves of Falls Church, VA; grandchildren, Kaitlynn, Ben, Josh, Rebecca, Aidan, Finnegan, Brecken, Sam, Max, and Cavanaugh; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation and a prayer service were held at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home in North East, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at on Saturday, May 4th, at St. Gregory Catholic Church and interment at St. Gregory Cemetery.
