HARTLAND — A graveside service was held April 29 in the Hartland Village Cemetery for Joan C. Dow, 80, a longtime resident of Hartland who died April 25 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. Rev. Lucia Jackson, Pastor of the Hartland Congregational Church, officiated.
She was born Sept. 18, 1932 in Montpelier, the daughter of Harold and Katherine (Enright) Crouse.
She received her schooling in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School in 1950.
She married David D. Dow in Windsor on May 2, 1953.
Joan was employed as a telephone operator at the former Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Windsor for 10 years, and later was employed at Valcom Answering Service in White River Jct., for several years until her retirement.
Joan had a precise skill of knitting and crocheting and it was her beloved hobby. Joan and David spent their life together traveling to various car meets in their many Studebakers. Her greatest joy was raising her three daughters and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, David D. Dow of Hartland; three daughters, Christine D. Buckman and her husband, Shawn of Weathersfield, twin daughters, Jacqueline A. Collier and her husband, Kevin of Windsor, and Jennifer D. Peeler and her husband, Doug of Hartland; four grandchildren, Benjamin D. Collier and Elijah T. Collier of Windsor and Nora L. Peeler and Hayden D. Peeler of Hartland; one brother, Richard Crouse and his wife, Dolores of Wallingford, Conn; one sister-in-law, Patricia Crouse of East Hartford, Conn; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; and one brother, Robert Crouse.
