The 5th Annual Trek to Taste—a celebration of local food and local trails—is scheduled for Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 10 am to 3 pm at the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park in Woodstock, Vermont. This free event is co-sponsored by over 30 area organizations and is quickly becoming one of the most popular events in the Upper Valley.

Event Highlights

  • Three guided walks leaving at 10:30 am and noon
  • Farm fresh samples along the trails
  • Arts and crafts, trail games, quests and community health exhibits
  • Ice Cream Social and Music by CarterGlass 1-3 pm
  • The first Annette C. Compton Fiertz Trail Stewardship Award announced at 2:00pm
  • FREE ADMISSION!

HIKING & ACTIVITY STATIONS

Purple Crayon & the Farmer’s Market
Follow the Stewardship Trail to the Purple Crayon
1 mile round-trip | 10am – 1pm

  • Create your own unique hiking bandanas, enjoy local music
  • Head across the street to the Mount Tom Farmers Market for farm fresh food selections, local arts & crafts
  • Visit the Change the World Kids, offering reusable bags for a $1 donation to support the Food Shelf


The Nordic Hut at the Spring Lot

Hike through the heart of the National Park to the Nordic Hut 
2.5 miles round-trip | 10 am – 2pm

  • Enjoy wood fired pizza made by the Woodstock Union Middle and High School Farm to School teams — with dough from King Arthur Flour and local veggies including… TBD!
  • Check out local food displays, including a fruiting mushroom log
  • Join a family-friendly lawn game
  • Learn about whole grains during a grinder demo and match the grain activity


Break at the Pogue Base Camp 

A moderate hike to the Pogue pond through woods and pastures
2.5 miles round-trip | 10am-2pm

  • Mix your own trail mix snack
  • Learn about trail maintenance with onsite demonstrations from the Upper Valley Trails Alliance and Green Mountain Club trail experts
  • Invasive plant species educational activities by OCISMA representative (The Ottauquechee Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area)
  • Play trail games and share trail stories
  • Learn about Trail Stewardship Activities in the area


South Peak Station

Hearty walkers will enjoy the view & local tastings 
at the south peak of Mount Tom
4.5 mile round-trip trek | 10 am – 2 pm

  • Sustainable Woodstock has teamed with local farmers and producers to offer gourmet tastings
  • Photographs of Woodstock through the ages from the Woodstock Historical Society
