Brush fires in Taftsville and Asctuney have local emergency officials concerned about favorable fire conditions in the region.

“This isn’t an extra-day year, but we’re getting there,” said Woodstock Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief David Roy after his and Hartland’s fire department, put out a brush fire in Taftsville last week.

The state is limiting the number of burn permits in the next month, according to reports. The state forest fire supervisor, Lars Lund, put out a statement warning Vermonters about the unsafe burning conditions.

“The majority of wildland fires in Vermont are a result of escaped fires from open burning by homeowners,” said Lund in the statement.
