QUECHEE — A woman typing a line of text on her cell phone is being blamed for a single vehicle accident Thursday morning just west of the Fat Hat Factory.

Hartford’s emergency services responded to Route 4 just west of the intersection with Quechee Main Street shortly after 8:30 a.m. after receiving a report that an eastbound Toyota Rav 4 had gone into the guardrails.

The driver of the SUV, Cassandra Storms, 22, of South Royalton was issued “multiple traffic tickets” after police determined that she had been texting and had crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic during the mishap.

Storms and a 9-month-old infant in the vehicle were both evaluated at the scene by a Hartford Ambulance crew who determined that neither had been injured.

Route 4 was restricted to one lane of travel for a brief period of time while police carried out their investigation.

I think she should lose her license for doing the texting. I think we need lawas that make it a crime to be texting or using a cell phone while driving. Too many times these people have caused fatalities.
