QUECHEE — A memorial service followed by a celebration of life for Robert “Rob” Wilson, 66, who died May 17 at the VA Medical Center in White River Jct., will be held at the Assembly of God Church in Canaan, N.H. on Saturday, June 8 at 1 p.m.
He was born May 7, 1947 in Manchester, Conn., a son of the late Malcolm and Ruth (Russell) Wilson and grew up graduating from Manchester High School in 1965 and went on to serve in Vietnam F. Troop 8th Cavalry (Blue Ghost) flying with his Huey helicopter from 1968 until he was seriously wounded, receiving many awards along with a Purple Heart in 1969. He was shipped to Ft. Devens Army Hospital to recover, and while there met his wife Sandie, who was working at the hospital as a civilian.
They married in 1971 in Nashua, N.H. and made their home in Manchester, Conn., during which time Rob worked as an engineer at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford and for Union Carbide. They moved to the Upper Valley in 1990 and made their home in Quechee where he became active in the community. Upon moving to the area, he went to work at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
Rob is survived by his wife, Sandie and daughter Beckie. Rob and Sandie recently celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary.
Rob had a true love for the Lord. He was a devoted member of the Hartford Rod and Gun Club and a life member of the NRA. He was a diehard Republican. Rob enjoyed attending monthly book clubs at the library. Another favorite was playing pool Tuesday evenings with his buddies at the clubhouse. He often stopped at the Quechee Post Office and library as well as Barrow’s Point Trading Post to check in with everyone. He will be remembered as a kind, friendly and giving person who had a love for life and could make friends everywhere he went. He enjoyed spending time with friends from the Hartford Rod and Gun Club and having a good belly laugh or two with his Friday afternoon friend Phil.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Hartford Rod and Gun Club, PO Box 316, Hartford, 05047 or the Canaan Assembly of God Church, PO Box 475, Canaan, NH 03741.
