DELMAR, N.Y. formerly from Bennington – Services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family for Norma Bridges who died Aug. 13 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, N.Y.
She was born in Monkton in 1920, daughter of Archie Shepard and Florence Rogers Shepard.
She received her teaching degree from Castleton College.
Norma had a long and satisfying career as a schoolteacher and found great joy in knowing the positive influence she had on her many students and their families. She always enjoyed being greeted by her former students and catching up on them as adults. Her teaching career covered many districts including; Huntington, Underhill, Reading and Bennington in Vermont. In New York, she substituted in Bethlehem Central and later became a full-time teacher at the Becker Elementary School in the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk district.
She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Bridges of Manlius, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Florence Santo of Bennington; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Charles Bridges and a brother Edward Shepard.
Norma wished to continue teaching after her death by supporting the Anatomical Gift Program of Albany Medical College.
