‘ART’, Presented by BarnArts
Labor Day weekend BarnArts presented a three man play by Yasmina Reza entitled “Art.” Starring Steve Hiller, Kevin Rice and Paul Daniel West as three Parisian friends. Tom Beck directed the Reza played which first opened in Paris in 1994.
The play centers around the 15 year relationship of these three men and how it breaks down after Serge (Kevin Rice) buys a painting for $200,000-a white canvas with a few white lines. Marc (Steve Hiller) scorns the purchase and Yvan (Paul Daniel West) under pressure from his upcoming wedding just can’t handle the fighting amongst the friends. The play carries you through the fights and the individual characters talking about each other and at times can be very funny, in a sad sort of way. Lines are literally drawn and the three friends must either come together or go their separate ways.
The play won the tony Award in 1998 for Best Play. The BarnArts crew did a great job of presenting the play and the barn setting at the King Farm Barn added greatly to the audience experience.
