SOUTH POMFRET —Services will be held at St. James Episcopal Church in Woodstock, at 1 p.m. on Oct. 26 for Celina Robbins Kellogg, who died Oct. 6.
She was born Feb. 29, 1916, in Boston, Mass., the fifth of six children of Dr. William Bradford Robbins and Marian Bennett Robbins.
Celina attended Winsor School in Boston and Brillantmont in Lausanne, Switzerland. She studied piano and voice at Longy School in Boston from age five, played with a family quartet and sang in local plays. Such a musical background stayed with her and she made music the centerpiece of any Kellogg gathering. She also skied often at Mount Washington and Suicide Six in Vermont.
On June 9, 1938, she married Edmund Halsey Kellogg of Morristown, N.J. and lived in Manhattan and Washington, D.C. During World War II she watched her growing family in Wayland, Mass., and South Pomfret, while Edmund worked in Britain and France. The family then lived in Washington, D.C. and McLean, Vir. while Edmund worked at the State Department. They then traveled to Cambodia and Dusseldorf, Germany, with the Foreign Service.
In 1968, Celina and Ed moved to Lincoln, Mass., where Ed worked in family planning. They moved to Pomfret in 1974 where Celina was a member of the Ladies’ Circle, played golf and tennis and continued her music. When Ed became professor at Vermont Law School, they welcomed students and professors into their home.
In 1991 they moved to Kendal-at-Hanover in Hanover, N.H. Ed died in 1993 and Celina has lived at Kendal since. Throughout her life, Celina served as a mother figure for many, a representative of the older generation for others.
She is survived by four children, Eliza Kellogg Klose of Sharon, Conn.; Celina Robbins Moore and Dr. Roger Bradford Kellogg of Montpelier; and Edmund Drake Kellogg of Winchester, Mass. She also has 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Contributions can be made in her name to the Vermont Public Radio (VPR) or to VINS.
