Congress voted late Wednesday night to approve a deal to end the federal shutdown and avert the possibility of a default.

The 285-144 vote in the House followed a 81-18 vote in the Senate ending the tense political standoff that shut down federal programs for 16 days.

President Obama has said he would vote on the measure Wednesday, if approved by the House.
