United Universalist Church in Hartland installed their long awaited steeple and custom made weather vane. The steeple restoration was celebrated in June. Jim Dow and Mike Cotroneo put in a weather vane on the top of the newly installed Hartland Unitarian Universalist Church steeple Tuesday. The 160-year-old steeple was removed last spring to begin repairs. More than 100 people, churchgoers and non-churchgoers, came together and contributed to the steeple renovation fund. The newly renovated spire is about 100 feet tall and 4,600 pounds and cost about $54,000 to repair. Jan Lewandowski, a historical preservationist who repaired the steeple, expects it will last another 150 years, once he finishes affixing the steeple to church. Dow is one of the makers of the weather vane, which was a surprise addition to the steeple. Dow pinned a 2013 nickel to the top of the weather vane to commemorate the steeple.
