KILLINGTON — Services were held Oct. 8 at the Tossing Funeral Home for Robert Whyte Johnstone IV, 81, who died Oct. 2 at the Rutland Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Boston, Mass., on Sept. 15, 1932, the son of Robert Whyte and Grace Irene (Bleakney) Johnstone III.
In 1950, he graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy, earned his AB in 1954 from Brown University, and received his MBA in 1956 from Wharton, University of Pennsylvania.
From 1956-1960 he worked in sales at IBM, and later from 1961-1976 he worked in real estate and development, and then was financial consultant for Smith Barney from 1976-2002.
After moving to Vermont in 1967, he was part of the first wave of development in Killington as a resort area and created residential developments in Killing and Pittsfield. He served tWO terms as a selectman in Killington.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Margaret (Veit) Johnstone, whom he married in 1954, of Killington; a son, Douglas Gordon Johnstone and wife, Nancy Blessing of Pittsfield; two daughters, Anne Margaret Johnstone of Somerville, Mass., and Jeanne Elizabeth Johnstone of Borrego Springs, Ca.; three brothers, Duane Clark Johnstone of Concord, Mass., Bruce Newport Johnstone of Meriden, N.H., and Douglas Blake Johnstone of Sandy, Utah; three grandchildren, Charlie Henry, and Maya and Aili Johanstone; and several nieces and nephews.
