FAIR HAVEN — A Memorial service will be held Oct. 25 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fair Haven for Wayne L. “Mike” Roberts, 62, who died peacefully at home in his sleep on Oct. 20. Rev. Anthony Pittappillil, Sdv., Pastor of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Church, and the Rev. Marshall Hudson Knapp, Pastor of the First Congregational Church UCC of Fair Haven, will officiate. Burial will follow the service in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Fair Haven. There will be no visiting hours.
Mike was born Dec. 2, 1950, the son of the late W. Walter and Helen (Cull) Roberts.
He grew up in Fair Haven and was a graduate of Fair Haven Union High School with the class of 1968. After graduation he continued his education, completing two years of electrical school in Manchester and successfully passed the exam to become a licensed electrician.
His career as an electrician began with Fox Electric Co., and later with Oakman Electric Co., both in Rutland. A few years later Mike joined Central Vermont Public Service and was employed there for a period of 35 plus years. Since the year of 2009, and at the time of Mike’s sudden passing, he had been employed as a supervisor for VELCO.
Growing up without his parents since the age of 12, Mike became a successful and caring person with the help and guidance of his sister, grandmother and the “River Street family.” He loved to help his family and friends with his skills and electrical abilities. He found it a challenge in repairing and wiring anything that was either brought to him or was needed. Perhaps his greatest enjoyments in life were his family and being able to treat his grandchildren to rides on the tractor or golf cart.
His former memberships include the Fair Haven Volunteer Rescue Squad, Fair Haven Volunteer Fire Company and the Fair Haven Booster Club.
Mike is survived by his wife of 39 years, Joyce (Phillips) Roberts of Fair Haven; two sons, Chad Roberts and his children, Gavin and Griffin; two step-grandchildren, Helena and Gabriel of Arlington, Todd Roberts and his wife, Jemima, their children, Olivia and Lucas of Bridgewater; his sister, Carol Young of Whitehall, N.Y.; his twin brother, Wynn “Pat” Roberts and his wife, Terry of Carrollton, TX; his sister-in-law, Jeanette Wilcox and her husband, Leighton of Orwell; his two brothers-in-law, Joseph Phillips and his wife, Linda of Wells and John Phillips and his wife, Teresa of Hydeville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Wray E. Roberts, who died June 25, 2001.
In lieu of flowers, Mike’s family has suggested memorial contributions in his memory to Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, 10 Washington St., Fair Haven, 05743.
