There will be a Celebration of Life at the Congregational “Brick” Church in Hartland on Friday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. followed by refreshments in the Parish Hall for David Justin Hammond.
David was born Dec. 7, 1951, son of Basil S. Hammond and Laurene Morrill Hammond of Windsor.
He was a graduate of Windsor High School and Vermont Technical College prior to joining the U.S. Marine Corps.
He married Sally Burney in 1971 and fathered three children.
He grew North Country Medical Courier Services into a large, three-statewide business after taking it over from his father in 1986.
David was an avid hunter and fly-fisherman and member of several rod and gun clubs in the Upper Valley, most notably the Meccawee Fishing Club of Bridgewater/Reading, which he served as Board Member and Treasurer. His happiest times were spent at Camp in the Northeast Kingdom, on Ocracoke Island, N.C. with his children and
grandchildren, and playing cards at his Mom’s kitchen table after family dinners. And of course … in the woods hunting, releasing apple trees, creating wildlife food plots; or on the trout streams of Vermont with his brother Frost.
He is survived by his loving partner, Gennie Lawrence of Woodstock; his mother Laurene; his daughter Beth and her husband Shane Stebbins of Pinehurst, N.C.; his son Justin of Claremont, N.H.; his daughter Kay Putnam and her family: husband Chris, sons Christian and Gabe, and daughter Addy – David’s adored grandchildren, of Dudley, N.C. Also, his sister Jan Tingley and her husband Ralph of Ansonia, Conn.; his brother Frost and his wife Colleen of Weathersfield and affectionately- teased nieces and nephews: Kris, Will and Bea (plus Rob and George).
Remembrance contributions may be made as Gifts in David’s name to The Meccawee Land Preservation Fund, c/o The Vermont Land Trust, 8 Bailey Avenue, Montpelier, 05602 (www.vlt.org).
Arrangements have been graciously handled by the Knight Funeral Home of Windsor.
