QUECHEE — Funeral services for Ross Worthy, 81, of White River Jct., and Naples, Fla., who died Nov. 12 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, N.H. after suffering a heart attack, were held Nov. 18 in the Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph Center.
He was born Dec. 18, 1931, in Chicago, Ill., son of Arthur R. and Cora H. (Blocker) Worthy.
Ross graduated from Fenger High School, Chicago in 1949.
He worked several jobs before entering the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and was stationed in England as an Air Traffic Controller. After his honorable discharge in 1955, Ross worked for the FAA as an Air Traffic Controller at Midway Airport, Chicago. He retired in 1982.
On. Sept. 28, 1986, Ross married Dianne DeRose in Fort Myers, Fla. They made their home in Naples, and summered in Vermont for many years before buying a home in Quechee in the fall of 2000.
Ross was a devoted husband and a loving and generous brother and uncle. He had been an avid golfer in his earlier years and was always an enthusiastic traveler. He and his wife enjoyed the beauty of Vermont and taking weekly drives in and around the central Vermont area. Ross was a member of the East Naples, Fla. United Methodist Church and while in White River Jct. attended the Valley Bible Church.
Ross is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Dianne as well as a beloved sister, Millicent Piersma of Rochelle, Ill., and a close brother, Arthur R. Worthy Jr. and his wife, Wilma J. of Holland, Mich. He is also survived on his wife’s side by his mother-in-law, Ann M. DeRose of Naples, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Dominick DeRose and his wife, Karen of Houston, Texas; a sister-in-law, Marianne Johnston and her husband, Michael of Fort Myers, Fla., and a brother-in-law, Matthew DeRose and his wife, Anne of Naples, Fla.; as well as many loving nieces and nephews from both side of the family.
Ross was predeceased by a brother, Henry “Hank” Worthy.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Red Cross Association, Central VT Chapter, 32 North Prospect Street, Burlington, 05401, mindful of the recent tragedy in the Philippines.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Knight funeral Home in White River Jct.
