Staff Report

The Woodstock football team beat Otter Valley, 34-0, Friday at James T. McLaughlin Field to advance to the Division III state championship.

The Wasps got a stiffer test from Otter Valley than the final score might suggest. Woodstock led only 14-0 at the half and if not for a great defensive play (on fourth and goal from the one) by Tom Baumann and Sam Cole the game would have been tied early in the second quarter.

Woodstock broke the game open when Will Gault returned a fumbled pitch for a 23-yard touchdown early in the third quarter.

Oliver Kaija had two rushing scores for the home team, Sam Cole and Nehemiah Wood also scored.

Woodstock will play either Mill River or BFA-Fairfax in the Division-III State Championship game in Rutland next Saturday; time is still to be determined.
