KILLINGTON — Visiting hours were held Dec. 13 at the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock for Ellen “E. J.” Willis, 66, who died Dec. 9 at the Rutland Regional Hospital. Burial will be held privately in the Riverside Cemetery in Killington and a celebration of E. J.’s life is being planned for this spring.
E. J. was born in Boston, Mass., on August 28, 1947, daughter of William and Vera (VanDine) Garneau.
She grew up in Monticello, Maine and graduated from Ricker Academy in Houlton, Maine and Castleton College.
She worked for Lauriat’s Bookstore in Rutland, The Cortina Inn, Sherburne Elementary School, the Killington Grand Hotel, and the Windsor Central Supervisory Union.
E. J. was an active member of her community serving on boards and helping out at Killington Active Seniors, the Historical Society, the West Bridgewater Cemetery, the Sherburne United Church of Christ (serving as treasurer), and on the Killington School Board where she was instrumental in getting the new gym built at the school, and many other community organizations.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Ron Willis; two daughters; Charmaine and Whitney, her grand-dog Studley, and three sisters; Joanne Fontaine, Brenda Garneau, and Debra Griffin.
She was predeceased by her parents.
