Woodstock native and former St. John’s golfer Keegan Bradley came away as one of the big winners on the second day of the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, Calif., on Friday, and in the process made a significant contribution to his alma mater’s golf program.
Bradley outdueled three of his fellow PGA Tour professionals in winning the “University Day” Skills Challenge held at the conclusion of play on Friday, earning $10,000 for his former collegiate team. Bradley competed against Florida alumnus Camilo Villegas, Oregon alumnus Ben Crane and Oklahoma State alumnus Rickie Fowler. Each golfer was accompanied by his school’s mascot, with St. John’s Johnny Thunderbird on hand to support Bradley.
“We all want to thank Keegan Bradley for his very nice contribution to our program,” said Red Storm men’s head coach Frank Darby. “It was great having St. John’s represented in the Skills Challenge alongside some of the best programs and golfers in the country.”
Bradley finished tied for 16th in the tournament. It was his eighth consecutive top 20 finish on the PGA Tour.
