Kevin Pearce will carry the torch for the American team at the Sochi Games in Russia on Feb. 7.

Pearce, a professional snowboarder and Hartland native, was a front-runner in competing in the Vancouver Olympics in 2010 before suffering a traumatic brain injury just two months before the competition.

Pearce was in a coma for a week and when he woke up, he had to learn how to walk, eat and talk again.

Pearce will never snowboard the way he used to, but he has become a motivational speaker and advocate for wearing helmets. Pearce shared his injury and recovery experiences in the Crash Reel.

I saw the Crash Reel twice it was very good and everyone should see it.
I thank Kevin and his family for being so brave.
Just watching it you get strength, hope and encouragement.
It was an horrible ordeal that was overcome by coming together.
You are all an inspiration to anyone going through a TBI or any other relatable experience.
I hope you get that Oscar.
