BRIDGEWATER CORNERS — A memorial service was held Jan. 25 at the Bridgewater Congregational Church for Wilbur Wilson Putnam Sr., 76, who died Jan. 22 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
He was born May 18, 1937 in Bridgewater Corners, the son of Edwin R. and Beulah (Wilson) Putnam.
He worked for Putnam Construction, building many roads in central Vermont, including the road through Bridgewater Corners.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, driving back roads, and using his lawn tractor and four-wheeler.
For the past few years, he wintered in New Smyrna Beach, Fla.
He was a 25-year member of the Bridgewater and Vermont State Grange.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Audrey Scribner Putnam; five daughters, Kathy “Put” of Woodstock, Jane Browe of Florence, Joan Modersohn of Bridgewater Corners, Jill Blaney of Plymouth and Joyce Arnebold of Killington; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Maxwell of Plymouth; and a sister, Pauline Adams of St. Cloud, Fla.
He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Janice; son, Wilbur “Wink” Putnam; grandson, Travis; and two sisters, Madeleine O’Neil and Shirley Sailer.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethany Mennonite Church, 169 Route 100A, Bridgewater Corners, 05035; or the Bridgewater Grange #284, Bridgewater Corners, VT 05035.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock.
